Today I recorded some of the audio for my song!

Some good news… I found a way to get a LOT of fun audio tracks by using the MIDI keyboard I borrowed from my partner so I could go beyond my podcasting mic and guitar!

The bad news… Audacity does not support MIDI keyboards!! 🙁

So, what to do then?

With the help of Nishant and Paige in EdTech, I learned about Band Lab, a free DAW that is really easy to use, and supports midi keyboard like the basic one my partner has FOR FREE! I gave it a try, and managed to find a lot of drum loops, instrument plugins, fun audio effects, and more.

Further good news: I recorded a few audio tracks and edited them together to get a drum loop, bass track, and piano pad.

Unfortunately further bad news: I cannot find a way to get my microphone to be supported by the program consistently and when it does work, the audio does not line up with the tracks for some reason – my vocals lag about a half a beat behind the MIDI files when I play them back! I tried searching for ways to fix this online, but I cannot seem to find a clear answer.

I thought about downloading the files into audacity and recording vocals that way, but unfortunately for the amount of time I have left to finish my inquiry project, I just cannot do that.

However, I have included the “demo” instrument track below for you! Enjoy 🙂
